The Continuing adventures of Lily and Meri

On a sunny New England afternoon...

It's about two in the afternoon, Saturday, September 21, 1996
Here they are posing for Grandma & Grandpa
(Lily insisted they sit in the shade).

Lily and meri Close-up
We're talking about going to the Pet Club to see some of their favorite animals. Lily wants to buy something to bring home, I forget what todays request is. We're giving mom some time alone.
I had to get some things at Home Depot and they were great there, stayed in the cart and had fun looking at all the stuff. Lily wanted to sit in the front of the cart, Meri wanted to sit in the seat and insisted on wearing the seatbelt, - no arguments there. Lily helped me pick out the rope I need to fix the umbrella on the deck and promised she wouldn't break the florescent bulbs I bought- she didn't. We went into the garden shop and looked at the pretty flowers, they loved it.

On the way to the Pet Club (an acre of pets) we see a yard sale and they just have to have some jewelry, for a quarter a piece I tell them only one each. Then I talk them into getting necklaces and let them pick the ones they want.

So off to the pet shop we go, as soon as we walk in the door Meri points to the dog snacks and says "Woof woof, yum yums". When we get into the creature room (always our first stop) Lily wants to hold one of the bunnies on display. I tell her they might hop away so she settles for a puppy after we ask permission. The Chu wua wua seems willing so he gets picked, store rule is you have to sit on the floor to hold one. Meri loves dogs more than any other animal, so she was just thrilled. We all sat on the floor, Lily held the dog and Meri didn't mind when it licked her fingers. Big dogs scare Meri when she's up close, but this one was more manageable since it was smaller than our cats. We had our fun with the puppy, looked at the lizards, snakes, ferrets ($199 each!), gerbils, parrots and other birds- the kittens were sleeping. Somehow we missed the big spiders and little mice that Lily always wants to buy.

Then it was off to the fish tanks, they have hundreds of fish tanks in two rows about 100 foot long. As we always do they jumped around from tank to tank marveling at the fish, frogs, and whatever- and I just identified what they questioned. Then we went looking for something for our cats, they had more interest in the cat toys then they did with the wildlife we just saw. Meri picked up a 6 lb. bag of cat food and brought it to me.

As it turns out we end up buying two small kitty mouse toys for Lily and Meri to play with. The cats got a new cardboard scratching post to share.

Meanwhile, Back in the yard . . .

Then a classically colored butterfly enters the yard...
Lily sneaking up on a butterfly A few seconds later Lily tries to catch a butterfly, she has no trouble catching moths- in her bare hands. But as she said of this butterfly "it's a fast one" moths are slower.

She can catch those little
white butterflies most of the time.

Here she is posing with the
greenish white butterfly
she then caught minutes later,
-yes in her bare hands!

I helped her put it into the bottle.

Meri sniffs a flower On the way to the swings,
Meri sniffs a flower.
She likes to swing... but not to much! Meri- just a little

Meri brings out a snack and Lilys' new horse toy "Derby" then off they go to have some munchies. Meridith loves to share, Lily returns the favor by letting Meri sit on her swing (because she was on Meri's). But Meri takes it well, after a little consolation ...

Meri brings the food and Lily's toy Lily gets her share Lily on the swing Meri goes to the swings On the wrong swings

...Then a quick scramble back to their own swings.

Who's on who's  Stay tuned, more to come. . .
